175 Scuba Diving Santas Break Record

December 25, 2013 - 20:44

Festive spirits were high at Vobster Quay last weekend. 175 scuba divers took to the cold English lake waters dressed in their finest fluffy beards and red Santa outfits to raise money for the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) and smashed a world record in the process.

The scuba-diving Santas celebrate their success

Vobster Quay is proud to be the current holder of the world record for the most Santa divers in the water at once. They were thrilled when they discovered that they'd not only beaten but smashed that record. The previous record set in 2011 stood at 161 divers. This year, it was beaten by 14 Santa divers – the total would have been even higher but several Santa divers were unable to complete their dive.

Vobster Santas had some amazing prizes up for grabs this year which helped boost the fundraising coffers. And the team at Vobster Quay would like to acknowledge and thank everyone who kindly supported this event and donated a prize. The remainder of the charity money has been collected by sponsored individual divers. A fantastic effort by everyone involved because £5,000 has been raised and this amazing achievement rounded off a thoroughly enjoyable day. The weather was especially kind meaning that everyone involved was able to enjoy the post-dive hot tea and minced pies on offer.
