In 2015 'HECS AQUATIC' launched two wetsuits at the DEMA Show. Their 'Spear Wetsuit' and their 'DiveSkin'.

HECS Pro Scuba Semi Dry Suit

HECS has now launched a Pro scuba semi dry suit that "comes with a list of features that will make your dive experience unforgettable and will be totally unparalleled in warmth and comfort."

The New Zealand manufacturer also states their patented stealth dive apparel “creates a Faraday Cage that keeps your electrical energy field from getting out.” By donning the ‘Human Energy Concealment System’ it will “allow you to get closer to marine life more than you ever imagined.

Allegedly.

We have searched and we cannot find any peer-reviewed scientific research to confirm or refute HECS' claims.

So let's analysis what we do know. We move in three dimenions underwater. We physically push water away from our body as we dive. It doesn't matter if we have perfect buoyancy, and we are hovering completely stationary, we will still move a little. This alone will distrupt the water in our vicinity, and therefore the adjacent marine life. Then add in that we are probably diving open circuit - we are also producing noise and bubbles. This too will confuse the water around us, potentially upsetting the marine life. I just cannot see how donning a stealth suit will suddenly change the behaviour of marine life. It all sounds a bit too much like the Emperor's New Clothes to me.

Perhaps this suit just might give you the edge if you are completely stationary in the water, ie you are lying on an object so you really are not moving anything. You are just blinking and breathing. And you have extensive knowledge of the animal's behaviour that you are diving with, so you know how to behave to around it. And you are diving a closed circuit rebreather, therefore your breathing is silent and you are producing no exhaust bubbles, then perhaps the marine life just might swim closer to you.

This one piece semidry suit comes in 3mm, 5mm or 7mm neoprene. All seams are glued and blind stitched and the knee and elbow areas have reinforced pads. There is an internal shoulder flap. This should provide additional thermal protection in this area. However the shoulder flap is held in place by a plastic buckle located between the shoulder blades. One wonders how comfy this will be once the diver dons a scuba set.
