Porter Case PCi
The new Porter Case PCi is a hard-sided carryon bag that transforms into a patented cart (trolley) capable of carrying an additional 150 lbs of baggage. Combining the best features of the original Porter Case with years of customer feedback and enhancement requests.
After years of struggling through airports with a hundred plus pounds of dive gear and underwater camera equipment, I have finally found a case that allows me to get my gear from the curb to the counter with ease.
Configurations
The PCi case has six possible interior configurations, retailing from $259 - $347. Its exterior dimensions of 22 x 14 x 9 in. are within US carryon regulations and it weighs a little over 10 lbs. The cart features a built in TSA combination lock and three additional safety latches. Side and end spring loaded handles make for easy maneuvering, while a water and dust resistant gasket helps to keep the contents safe. Constructed of high impact, injected PP plastic, with sturdy 4 in. ball bearing wheels and a 40 in. extension handle, the case comes with a 3 year limited warranty. Converting from the standard roller case configuration to the cart (trolley) configuration becomes second nature after a couple of tries, though instructions are included just in case (pun intended).
As a photographer, I opted for the Camera case configuration, which comes with padded dividers and a foam insert in the lid. There is also a Deluxe Camera configuration, which includes an organizer in the lid that holds a 15 in. laptop. The Camera case easily accommodates 2 pro-style DSLR’s, 3 - 4 lenses, a flash and various accessories. The convertible handle is build into the lid, so you trade a bit of interior storage space for the cart carrying capability.
When traveling, I try to keep my camera gear with me at all times but there are occasions, such as when boarding a small plane, where I must relinquish my carry-on. The sturdy, hard-sided Porter Case PCi with its TSA locks gives me confidence that my gear will arrive in one piece.
