Werner Lau Closes Sharm El-Sheikh Dive Centre
In 2001 Werner and Lilly Lau were made an offer they couldn't refuse - to take over a diving centre in Sharm El-Sheikh.
Their philosophy was to focus on service, coupled with practical experience and personal enthusiasm for the underwater world. Over the years, the team in Egypt have won a clutch of Tauchen Magazine awards.
However the political and economical situation in Sharm el Sheikh over the last three years has made it increasingly difficult to run a successful dive centre.
The challenging situation came to a head on 31st October 2015 after a flight from Sharm to St Petersburg was destroyed by a terrorist bomb. It crashed in North Sinai. After the incident nearly all direct flights from Europe into resort were cancelled. The date for the resumption of European flights into resort keeps on being pushed back, with Spring 2016 being mentioned by a number of carriers. What will happen after that is uncertain.
Just as 2015 closed, Werner Lau issued the following statement:
"During the past 15 years, Sharm El-Sheikh has become a second home for us. We opened the diving centre to offer our clients an alternative destination to the Maldives, and poured a lot of dedication in its development and operation. Unfortunately, it is over now.
We would like to thank all our divers, guests, friends and employees for their faithfulness and loyalty.
We hope to welcome you in The Oasis in Marsa Alam or in one of our other diving centres worldwide in the future."
Werner Lau will be exhibiting at Boot Dusseldorf. They can be found on Booth C18, in Hall 3 from 23rd January 2016.
