aquaCORPS Tech Pioneer interviews digitally re-published
I finally got to meet Michael Menduno, face-to-face at OzTek 2011. Fifteen years earlier, I had been given a very precious copy of aquaCORPS by cave explorer, Michael Thomas.
Michael Menduno (M2) was the man who coined the phrase 'technical diving' and published aquaCORPS Magazine.
We shared a late night beer and game of pool at the Pyrmont Bridge Hotel and talked about the USA technical diving magazine published in the 1990s. I asked him about republishing aquaCORPS, specifically could I and X-Ray Mag work with him to make this happen, because I thought it was a useful resource for today's divers. At the end of the evening, Michael gave X-Ray Mag permission to republish some articles, which was pretty exciting.
I wrote at the time that "some of the articles are just as pertinent today as they were when they were penned, and others are a charming look back at how we were. Either way, enjoy this slice of diving history, with many grateful thanks to Michael Menduno and AquaCorps magazine."
Now, M2 has partnered up with TDI to digitally republish the tech pioneer interviews from the 1990s. Names include Jim Bowden, John Cronin, Billy Deans, Sheck Exley, Lad Handelman, Rich Pyle and Bill Stone.
So, grab a cup of coffee, take your phone off the hook, indulge yourself with a moment of peace and discover what influenced so many of today’s leading technical divers.
