One of the joyous things about this sport is that if you are curious, you never stop learning.

The Historical Diving Society

Be it equipment, technique, physiology, photography or biology, divers have the ability to study to their personal level and interest. One aspect that is often overlooked by most divers is the history of diving.

The UK has a rich resource when it comes to this subject. Indeed the (HDS) was formed in the UK in 1990, and has subsequently grown into an international organisation with members and offshoot societies around the world.

Each year the HDS holds an annual conference. Earlier today it was confirmed that Historical Diving Society Conference will be held at the Royal National Lifeboat Institution College, Poole, on Saturday the 5th November.

The speakers and subjects are:

Haydn Luchi-Sutton
- The history of Swimmer Delivery Vehicles

Dr John Bevan
- Operation Tadpole: the Royal Navy frogman anti-sabotage operations in Gibraltar during WW2

Reg Vallintine
- Captain Trevor Hampton AFC

Kevin Patience
- Treasures from the Deep

The Conference will be followed by the Society’s annual dinner, which is also held at the RNLI College.
