Light Monkey launches a 'Hurricane Michael' disaster relief fund
A Floridan diving manufacturer has launched a relief fund to help support the town of Marianna, Panama City and the surrounding small towns who were affected in the recent hurricane.
Amanda Hammond at Light Monkey told me "last week, Hurricane Michael devastated North Florida in the United States. This unprecedented disaster has abruptly and brutally ripped apart the lives of hundreds of thousands, and literally wiped entire towns off the map."
The devastation is very personal to Light Monkey, because this has affected many of their friends and families. Light Monkey has therefore launched an appeal and they will be hand delivering care boxes to those who have lost everything.
If you wish to make a donation, Light Monkey has launched this fundraising platform. At present US$5,312 has been raised towards the target of US$15,000.
All funds will be used to purchase the following:
FUEL
• Fuel for generators
• Fuel cans to transport petrol / gas and diesel
BASIC HUMAN CARE
• Hand sanitisers / wipes
• Shampoo and conditioner
• Toothbrushes c/w cases
• Toothpaste
• Disposable razors
• Shaving cream
• Body soap
• Deodorant
• Mouthwash
• Combs
• Feminine hygiene products
FOOD
• Hard sweets that won't melt
• Non-perishable food that does not require cooking
• Pre-portioned powered drink (to go into bottled water)

The people affected by this hurricane have no electricity, few have clean running water, and most have sustained large-scale damage to their homes. Fuel is a rare commodity, and businesses are not open. It will be months before these areas regain these amenities.
If you are able to give anything, even if it is the price of a cup of coffee, it will make a difference. Thank you.
