Why has this product recall been issued?
It is possible that under certain circumstances the deflation button can unscrew which could result in loss of the seal at the mouthpiece, and then a loss in buoyancy. Therefore Mares has decided to issue a voluntary product recall.
Hundreds of these inflators have been produced by a third party supplier without any problems. However because of a change in the production process insufficient torque was applied when some of the inflators were assembled. This has now been rectified and the correct torque applied when assembling the button. In addition a special glue is now being added to the threads.
What happens to your recalled equipment?
Mares has stated that every affected inflator will be replaced with a new inflator and corrugated hose, and a gasket for the elbow connection. The inflator body be marked with an X to indicate it has been properly assembled.
The work should be done by an authorised Mareslab Service Centre and the works will be done free of charge.
If you require additional information will can be found on the Mares website or Facebook page.
