Rebreather Checklist Survey!

February 17, 2016 - 18:27
Posted in section:

There was much talk of checklists at Rebreather Forum 3 (RF3) in May 2012.

A PADI 'Type R' Rebreather Checklist spotted at Divetech's Inner Space rebreather event

included how often checklists are used (if at all), and how effective are they (when they are used).

To date, there has not been any formal studies undertaken to determine checklist use within the community. Now a PhD research project - primarily examining the role of Human Factors in SCUBA diving - is looking at checklist usage.

The survey will gather data on the use (and non-use) of checklists by rebreather (SCR and CCR) divers. The key aim is to understand the factors which encourage or discourage the use of checklists within the rebreather community and, as a consequence, what can be done to improve their use.

The Human Factors research programme is being run through Cranfield University in England. It has the support of several dive training agencies including BSAC, GUE, IANTD, IART, ITDA, PADI, RAID, TDI and SSI.

If you currently dive a rebreather, or have dived a rebreather in the last 3 years, please consider taking part in . It will take approximately 10 minutes to complete and the results will help inform training agencies and individuals on how best to improve rebreather diving safety and personal performance.

The survey will close at midnight (GMT) on 29 February 2016.
